Following the very successful 19th World Congress of Dermatology in Sydney in 1997, the Australian Dermatology Research and Education Foundation (ADREF), now operating as Epiderm, was set up to disperse grants to support:

  1. Scientific research;
  2. Educational programs;
  3. Public relations activities.

It is stressed that such grants are not for the attaining of higher qualifications. The exact quantum of funds available will vary from year to year, depending upon the income derived from Epiderm sources. It should be remembered that the maximum quantity of funds available, may or may not be dispersed. Applicants should state, in their application, under which heading their application lies.

  1. Unless otherwise stated the grant must be taken up in the year for which it is awarded.
  2. Applicants for awards must submit a budget indicating all sources of financial support for which applications have been submitted/granted.
  3. Twelve months after the commencement of the activities for which the award has been granted, recipients must supply a report of activities under the award, which is suitable for a general medical audience and which may be published in the Australasian Journal of Dermatology or the newsletter of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, The Mole.
  4. Any publications arising from work conducted during the term of the award shall indicate that the work was carried out during the tenure of a grant awarded by Epiderm.
  5. A reprint of any publication must be forwarded to the Honorary Secretary of Epiderm, C/- ACD, PO Box 2065, Boronia Park NSW 2111.
  6. Payment of the grant shall be in such a manner as Epiderm thinks fit. In general the full grant will be sent to the recipient once the decision has been made to support him/her. However, under certain circumstances, the Board of Epiderm may give the grant in fractions over time.
  7. Unless the purpose and condition of the award can be fulfilled, the award is forfeited and all repayments must be refunded.
  8. Recipients of an award given by Epiderm will cooperate and participate in activities organised by Epiderm or other bodies which may be determined from time to time, such as the Australasian College of Dermatologists, to publicise the award.
  9. The successful applicant will be expected to spend the major part of his or her time in an institution nominated by the applicant and which has been approved by Epiderm. Epiderm will require confirmation of the applicant's acceptance by this institution before making an award. All arrangements with the nominated institution are the responsibility of the applicant.
  10. An appropriate contract between the recipient and Epiderm must be signed.

Five copies of the completed application forms are to be in the hands of the Honorary Secretary, Epiderm, no later than six weeks before the beginning of the Australasian College of Dermatologists’ Annual Scientific Meeting. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Applications must be made according to the sample application form.
